The Doctor Quilt is DONE. In less than a year.

I started this Doctor Who quilt for my husband on February 6, 2011.  AND IT. IS. DONE.  Quilted, bound, washed, and dried.  WOO WOO.  I am really happy with how is turned out.  I had the typical fading issues with the Spoonflower prints but I am still really please.  The designer of the Doctor prints is seller studiofibonacci and has some seriously amazing geek fabrics.  And clearly, in our house, we love some geeky stuff.  We recently started watching the original Doctor Who episodes from 1963.  Some things have changed hugely in the show, and some not at all.  I love it.

I love how the straight line quilting is at varying distances.  I used a grey thread that is ever so slightly darker grey than the Kona Ash and I am super happy with how it is subtly noticeable.

I know I am totally tooting my own horn but I can’t help it.  I think part of what makes me so happy with this quilt is that my husband is thrilled.  He’s waited so patiently for almost a year and only periodically asked about his Doctor quilt.

Adding to my adoration for my husband is that he picked up (and paid for) my sewing machine from the repair shop this week.  I love Brother Sew & Vac like crazy and they made my machine run so nice and smooth.  It’s quieter, the stitches look great, and it works.  When it took it in, I couldn’t even turn the hand wheel.  I think I must have ignored the problems it was having until it literally would not sew another stitch.

So now that this quilt is done, I am going to get to work on finishing my scrappy 9 patch.  I started these blocks December 23, 2010.  Other than the border squares and white border, the top is SO CLOSE to being done.  Pathetic.

We had a DC Modern meeting tomorrow so I will take this lovely and get my butt to work.  I even have the binding made.

Other than sewing, I’ve been doing a lot of this:

Yeah, physical therapy is my life.  Two mornings a week I stretch, strength train, and get massage/electro-stim so that I can run more and hopefully get hurt less.  Last week my PT said it was time to start running more to see what would happen and I fell (over nothing) running up a hill and sprained my non-injured ankle.  So, more rest for me.  I ran some slow miles today and realized how very out of shape I have become after two months of rest and PT.  I miss my running shoes.

No running = more time for WIPs?
